The Kimpton Schofield - Cleveland, Ohio
The Kimpton Schofield is without a doubt my favorite Cleveland, Ohio retreat. Luxurious while maintaining its midwest modesty, the property is welcoming and stylish. One of 68 Kimpton Hotel properties, the hotel is located in the seven lower floors of what was a historical office complex circa 1902 (previously known as the Euclid Ninth Tower). The upper seven stories currently house apartments known as the Schofield Residences. The property was beautifully restored and converted into the modern hotel and residences that we know in 2016.
The Kimpton Schofield vibes & Breakdown
Having primarily visited the property in the winter months, it's a delight to walk through the doors on a blustery day into the warm, almost ski-lodge-like lobby with its large indoor fire pit and floating flue. The lobby's floor to ceiling windows allow plenty of natural light and the rooms offer breathtaking views of the city. The Kimpton Schofield has over 120 comfortable and well-appointed rooms and suites, each of which is equipped with all the modern amenities that guests need for a comfortable and convenient stay. The rooms are spacious, elegantly furnished, and bright.
One of the standout features of the Kimpton Schofield is its exceptional dining. The hotel's on-site restaurant, Betts, is a vibrant brasserie that offers an extensive menu of classic dishes, made with locally sourced ingredients, and an extensive wine list.
I often recommend this hotel to other Northeast Ohio suburbanites for weekend staycations. Its close proximity to Playhouse Square, restaurants, and many of the city's most popular attractions and landmarks including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Terminal Tower make the Kimpton a convenient option for exploring the city.
My Stay At the Kimpton
At the height of the pandemic, I moved back to Cleveland from Los Angeles. That year, The Kimpton Schofield went above and beyond to help me celebrate my birthday safely with a small group of masked friends.
We held our social distancing get together in the "1 Bedroom Suite City View", a spacious (665 square feet) and beautifully appointed room. The suite features a King bed, living area, walk-in shower plus a separate bath, frette linens, luxury Atelier Bloem bath amenities, and (WAIT FOR IT...) a complimentary acoustic guitar for in-room jam sessions. Was this hotel made for me? Not only is there a city view, but there is a direct vista of the 44 foot Playhouse Square sign. As someone who has spent a large percentage of their life living in apartment buildings, I immediately thought this suite would be the perfect downtown Cleveland apartment. It's no wonder the Schofield Residences exist just above the hotel.
The team at Betts worked with me to reserve a private dining space, design a pared down menu (*as much as I'd like to, this girl can't afford to buy 14oz Delmonico steaks for all of her friends), and host a lovely and tasty evening.
The customized menus even included my name and the date of my birthday event which I saved as a keepsake. While the menu at Betts has changed quite a bit since my last visits, I remember ordering the Tokyo Bowl, an asian-inspired mixed vegetable bowl with shrimp, coconut, and peanuts. It did not disappoint.
It's a Doggy Dog Hotel
Of course, one of my absolute favorite things about the Kimpton Schofield is that they do not discriminate against four-legged guests, so my 7lb Chorkie, Crouton, was able to join in on the fun and rest comfortably (as if he's not already spoiled enough). Their policy does not just apply to dogs. Of every hotel I've ever stayed at, The Kimpton Schofield and Hotel Nikko in San Francisco have impressed me as the two hotels with the best pet policies.
There's no better place in Cleveland to go off on an adventure with your pet, and as the website states,
"...as long as they fit in the elevator, we can't wait to welcome them to the Kimpton Schofield Hotel." Not only does the Kimpton Schofield allow dogs, they celebrate them. There is no size or weight limit, no limit on the number of pets, no deposit or cleaning fees charged, "Pet in room" door hangers, doggie amenity treats and water bottles for the room, and even pet beds and bowls in room prior to arrival if you give the staff notice that there will be a dog staying with you.
Of course, if you're not a pet person, then get off my blog! Just kidding. If you're not a pet person, the Kimpton Schofield has floors that do not allow pets, so your pet-free lifestyle won't be bothered.
The Kimpton Schofield Hotel in Cleveland is a luxury hotel that offers guests a unique and memorable experience. With its historic charm, stylish decor, and exceptional facilities and services, it is the perfect destination for travelers looking for a sophisticated and upscale hotel in the heart of Cleveland.
